1,220 robots for every 10,000 Korean workers

IFR, April 2026: the Republic of Korea has the world’s highest robot density, 1,220 industrial robots per 10,000 employees. Singapore 818. Germany 449. Humanoids, in the same year, still have almost no real-world applications.

A twelfth of the shop-floor is a machine

1,220 robots per 10,000 employees is 12.2% of the Korean manufacturing labour force, counted as arms. The IFR’s April 2026 density wrap is the print: Korea first, Singapore second at 818, Germany third at 449 and first in Europe. Korea has been compounding that density at about 7% a year since 2019. Pair this with Korea still the lowest-fertility civilisation. The country is not going to hire its way out of 0.75. It is going to bolt the work down.

Humanoids are not on this chart because they are not in the factory

The same 2025–26 IFR season that printed 542,000 industrial installs and these densities also said the quiet part: virtually no real-world applications for humanoids. Twelve commercial platforms for sale or lease is a catalogue. It is not a density. The investing error is to buy a 2026 humanoid earnings story. The investing map is reducers, vision, welding cells, and the Korean and German firms that already have a process.

The long view is density, not demos

China still installs more arms than everyone else. Korea still has more arms per worker. Those can both be true. Own the density leaders and the component stack. Do not own a press-conference humanoid as if it were 1,220.

Robot density is the honest demographic hedge. Own the countries and suppliers that already run the arms. Humanoids are a 2030s option.
